Asbestos Lung Cancer Hope for a vaccine against “the cancer from asbestos A Dutch team would progress today in the development of a therapeutic vaccine against pleural mesothelioma, a tumor that affects primarily the victims of asbestos.
Initial tests seem to show a good tolerance of the vaccine. This is encouraging news in the fight against a disease whose prognosis is now darker.

The candidate vaccine has been developed from dendritic cells – immune system cells – patients placed in contact with tumor antigens. The specific immune response that has resulted has effectively fight against the disease: 10 patients on whom the candidate vaccine was tested, three have seen their cancer regress. (more…)

Cancer TreatmentCancer treatment is sometimes problematic. Sometimes, given the current inability of science to cure more aggressive cancers in advanced stages of evolution, it is preferable to give up curative treatment and palliative treatment applied to provide the least possible discomfort and lead to a dignified death. In such cases the emotional support becomes paramount.

The Dangers Of Asbestos and Its Health Repercussions

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Article written by Rob Stone

Lung Mesothelioma Cancer is one of the worst variations of cancer to have with there being no cure to date of this terminal disease. Asbestos Cancer as it is more commonly known usually occurs many years after exposure to this natural occurring material. Asbestos itself has been used it many homes throughout the world until it was discovered the material was the cause of many fatalities.

Over the years Asbestos has been used in the home, it has been incorporated into many different parts of the home. This started with the mining of Asbestos in the 1940’s until in the 1970’s it became apparent of the danger of Asbestos and how it affects the human body.

There are three types of Mesothelioma Cancer with Pleural Mesothelioma being the most common. This variation occurs in the chest cavity and can also incorporate the lungs as it spreads. Once diagnosis has been made, the survival rate of this severe cancer is just 17 months with prognosis often being achieved well into the illness, which could have shown different symptoms before a patient sees a doctor. Info Cancer

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Info CancerCancer is a group of diseases in which the body produces an excess of malignant cells (also known as carcinogens, or cancer), with typical features of behavior and uncontrolled growth (growth and division beyond the normal limits, invasion of surrounding tissue and sometimes metastasis). Metastasis is characteristic of many cancers, is the propagation distance, primarily through blood or lymph cell cancer originating, and the growth of new tumors in locations such metastases.

These three properties (uncontrolled cell division, aberrant behavior and metastasis) differentiate malignant tumors (or cancer) from benign, which are limited and do not invade or metastasize. Most cancers form tumors, like leukemia but some do not. (more…)

Lung Cancer and Medical Malpractice

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Lung CancerLung cancer is the deadliest type of cancer worldwide. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, although non-smokers can suffer from lung cancer (and in fact do) because of other sources such as exposure to asbestos or radon gas. Lung cancer can also occur by the spread of cancer (metastasis) from other parts of the body.
Misdiagnosis

As with any cancer, early treatment is essential. Lung cancer is not only the most deadly type of cancer, but is also one of the most wrongly diagnosed. Misdiagnosis can lead to late detection, which allows the disease to continue to grow and make it more difficult treatment. In some cases, the doctor diagnosed the symptoms of lung cancer as something different, for example tuberculosis or bronchitis. In some cases, misdiagnosis has led to the incorrect removal of a lung. ASBESTOS : 47 to Develop a Deadly Cancer

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

ASBESTOS A study coordinated by the pulmonologist Dr. Josep Tarrés, published in Archives of Bronconeumología, noted the importance of diseases related to asbestos or asbestos, ERA, in the areas of influence of a pollutant center beyond occupational exposure and at the same time, as the consequences of both malignant (mesothelioma) or benign can occur for a long time until 20 years after exposure, making the asbestos-related diseases in a public health problem.

To evaluate and assess the importance of disease was the Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery through the Area EROM (Occupational Respiratory Diseases and the Environment) has launched an online registration survey and monitoring of workers with a history of contact asbestos supplementing the National Register of mesothelioma.
