Lung cancer is the deadliest type of cancer worldwide. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, although non-smokers can suffer from lung cancer (and in fact do) because of other sources such as exposure to asbestos or radon gas. Lung cancer can also occur by the spread of cancer (metastasis) from other parts of the body.
Misdiagnosis
As with any cancer, early treatment is essential. Lung cancer is not only the most deadly type of cancer, but is also one of the most wrongly diagnosed. Misdiagnosis can lead to late detection, which allows the disease to continue to grow and make it more difficult treatment. In some cases, the doctor diagnosed the symptoms of lung cancer as something different, for example tuberculosis or bronchitis. In some cases, misdiagnosis has led to the incorrect removal of a lung.
